Your Google Adwords program – an expensive alternative to hard work?

First you got your website up and running. Then (hopefully) you dumped the fancy flash stuff on the homepage. Then you rebuilt your site in CSS. Then you got your meta tags figured out. And now you’re on the top of any Google search, right?

Highly unlikely.

If it seems that getting to the top of the search engines is impossible, you’re not far from right. It takes real effort, endurance and absolute commitment. And it can take a long, long time depending on what business you’re in. Many companies rely completely on paid search advertising. But what happens when their daily budget is exceeded in the late afternoon? They go dark and, with no organic ranking, they go really, really dark.

Don’t get the wrong idea, I’m not against paid search. It works well and can be very successful for any business (if you have enough money). But what Google really likes is to see companies out there working hard and taking the Internet seriously. And that’s really the key. You’ve got to get on your site and really work at it. I’m not making this up. Google, Yahoo, Bing and others reward hard work on the Internet. You’ve got to get serious.

What does that mean, exactly? It means treating your website as a critical part of your business. It is, you know. I’ve seen so many companies who expect to put up their website and show up on top of the organic search list. It’s simply not going to happen like that.

Keep your eye out for lots of things to come to Ion Leap. You see, I’m practicing what I preach. This website doesn’t just have a blog as part of it.  It IS a blog. The entire website is a blog. You’ll get to watch as I really work this website. Videos will be coming shortly. Audio links, slide shows, and lots more. You’re gonna see just what it takes to climb up from nothing to a top ranking. In fact, I may start to post on my progress so you can see the climb. That would make for fun reading and a real underdog story.

Stay tuned as Ion Leap climbs up out of nothingness into the search rankings. Maybe I’ll just avoid Adwords altogether…nah. Like any good businessman, I need the customers and will do whatever it takes to get them. Unlike many businessmen, I will do whatever it takes to get there. And that includes a ton of very, very hard work.
